Deryle Cline...we'll miss him greatly.

Deryle Cline passed away Friday evening (April 4). There was a visitation at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, KS, on Monday evening (April 7) from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial service was Tuesday (April 8) at 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Buffalo, MO.
Some of the bluegrassers paid tribute to Deryle by presenting a single white rose, in memory of his song, "Just A White Rose Will Do".
Some of you, I know, were not in the HABOT club while Deryle served as president, but he served during a 15 year period. He was a great guy and a wonderful ambassador to bluegrass music. I've known him since 1980, and will miss him greatly.

I know that most of the Bluegrassers around Kansas City knew Deryle better than I did. I just don't get around to enough of the festivals and jams. But, I sure will miss my friend Deryle and having him ask me to kick off "Prayer Bells From Heaven"!
Deryle was such fun and always kidding me about one thing or another. I greatly enjoyed jamming and just talking to Deryle. I think everyone appreciates the work he put into HABOT and especially the efforts he put into getting the young people involved with Bluegrass.
Thank you Deryle. I'll miss you until we meet again.

Deryle & I were friends for 28 years. Jake didn't know him quite so long, but we're both going to miss him. We played with him in his band for a while and it was great fun. We jammed at so many festivals during the 80's that I wouldn't be able to count them all. Deryle always had a smile and was ready to "Shake Howdy" with everyone. It seemed important to Deryle that Jake run for president of HABOT, and I'm glad he was able to see that happen. We'll miss his humor, hard work, and dedication to the club. Can you imagine the jams going on "Upstairs", with Deryle and Charlie, both, there? I can see Deryle, now....planting white roses in God's garden and ringing those "Prayer Bells In Heaven". Farewell, Old Friend. Love ya'.

We first met Deryle about 17 years ago at the Roanoak Community Center. He had just became the president of HABOT and kept trying to get us to come over to his club's monthly jams also. We finally did and became good friends as he was always teasing us, encouraging us and making us laugh. He probably did as much as anyone in the KC area to promote and support Bluegrass music. We'll miss you Deryle. Mike and Nancy Stadler, Topeka, Ks
